Song Lyrics

Updated: Mar 15

Many of you have asked for lyrics for our class time songs so you can sing them at home.

Here are some of them. I will add more winter songs as the season progresses.

Winter

The Mitten Song

Thumb in the thumb place, fingers all together

That's what we do in the mitten weather;

Hats upon our heads and scarves around our necks

Snowsuits, warm boots, so we don't get wet.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost is very small, I'm sure he's here today.

He is busy pinching me when I go out to play.

Jack Frost he pinched my fingers, Jack Frost he pinched my toes,

So I ran into the house and I shut the door (clap),

And that little Jack Frost couldn't pinch me anymore.

Ice & Snow (c) Alison Notkin

I sing of the ice and I sing of the snow, as walking down slippery sidewalks I go.

I balance my arms and I shuffle my feet, and it helps me to safely walk down the street,

In the ice and snow, in the ice and snow

In the ice and snow you've got to walk slowly

In the ice and snow, in the ice and snow

In the ice and snow you've got to walk slowly

It's icy outside but it's cozy in here, so come over lovey, oh come over dear.

We'll cuddle up warm and we'll cuddle up tight

It will help us to sleep through, all through the night...

The Toboggan Song

Come let us pull, pull, pull, our toboggans up the hill,

Come let us pull, pull, pull, our toboggans up the hill.

And now we're at the top, we're sliding swiftly down

We're sliding swiftly down, we're sliding swiftly down

Until we stop, stop, stop, and tumble in the snow!

Snow On My Toes

Snow on my toes and snow on my knees

Snow on my head and snow on the trees

Snow on the rooftops, snow in the air,

Watch out, watch out,

Snow is everywhere.

The Thread Follows The Needle

The thread follows the needle,

The thread follow the needle

In and out the needle go as

Father mends the childrens' clothes

Big Steps, Little Steps (c) Alison Notkin

Snow is falling from the sky

Covers the ground and piles high

If we leave it by and by

We're going to have to lift our feet up high with...

Big steps, big steps, biggie biggie big steps

Big steps, big steps, through the falling snow

Big steps, big steps, biggie biggie big steps

Big steps, big steps, down the street we go

Snow is falling from the sky

Covers the ground and piles high

If we shovel clean and neat,

Then we can easily walk down the street with...

Little steps, little steps, little little little steps

Little steps, little steps through the falling snow

Little steps, little steps, little little little steps

Little steps, little steps, down the street we go.

Mighty Animals Song (c) Alison Notkin

These are the animals, the mighty, mighty animals,

So it's been told.

They can find warm shelter and food to eat

All through the winter's cold.

It takes a mighty, mighty, mighty strong animal

Strong and tough.

It takes a mighty, mighty, mighty strong animal,

To live where the conditions are rough.

Hibernation Lullaby (c) Alison Notkin

Go to sleep, go to sleep,

Little bear, little bear

Up in a hill, in a cave up there

You can sleep all the winter

'Cause it's so cold out there

So cuddle up, go to sleep little bear

Rock-a in my arms

Rock-a on my knee

Rock a furry little bear baby

Rock-a over here,

Rock-a over there

Rock a cozy little baby bear.

When The Wind Howls

When the wind does howl and blow

All our paths are covered with snow.

With our shovels, out the door

We shovel and shovel and shovel some more

But when we look around to see, all is white, as white can be.

Les Oiseaux (c) Alison Notkin

Les oiseaux qui n'aiment pas le froid

Ne restent pas, la ou il ya de la neige.

Les oiseaux qui n'aiment pas le froid

Ne restent pas ici pendant l'hiver.

Ils volent, ils volent

Loin d'ici ou le soleil brille

Ils volent, ils volent

Ils restent, ils restent

Restent ici dans leurs petits nids,

Ils restent, ils restent

Pour trouver a manger, et un abri pour leurs bébés.

Autumn

Apple Tree

Here is an apple tree, I look up and I can see

big red apples ripe and sweet, big red apples good to eat (yum yum...)

Shake the big old apple tree, see the apples fall on me

Here's a basket big and round, pick those apples off the ground.

Here's an apple ripe and sweet, that's the apple I will eat! (crunch!)

Big Black Crow

Big black crow, sitting in a tree

What are you squawking bout, won't you tell me?

Caw, caw, caw.

Every day it's the same old song

Are you hoping I'll sing along

With a caw, caw, caw?

Way up high in the old oak tree

Your shiny black feathers are clear to see

You're bigger and brighter than all the rest

You must think you're the very best

Big black crow, sitting in a tree

What are you squawking bout, won't you tell me?

Caw, caw, caw.

Birds & Bats

Birds and bats fly through the sky, through the sky, through the sky

Birds and bats fly through the sky on this October night.

The treats in the bag go clink clink clink, clink clink clink, clink clink clink,

The treats in the bag go clink clink clink on this October night.

We hide ourselves in colours bright, colours bright, colours bright,

And give each other a scary fright on this October night.

With a rickety tickety tickety tick

With a rickety tickety tickety tick tick tick

Under the big old chestnut tree, you and I play happily

You and I play happily, under the big old chestnut tree

Chestnuts, chestnuts all around, falling on the autumn ground

Covering up all we can see, under the big old chestnut tree

Under the tree sit you and I, gazing at the autumn sky

Holding hands so happily, under the big old chestnut tree.

Won't you make some honey for me?

Bee bee, swoop and dive

Take the nectar from the flower to the old bee hive.

Pass the nectar from bee to bee

Just like we pass the bean bag from you to me.

Feed the honey to the bee baby

And if there's some left over, leave some for me.

Buzz buzz buzz a buzzy

Buzz buzz buzz a buzzy bee.

The way of the wind on a fresh autumn day.

Pine cones from the pine tree, and

Acorns, from the oak.

Chestnuts from chestnut tree

And long flat dark twisty pods from the honey locust branch..

Trees drop their seeds so that more trees can grow

Down from the trees to the ground the seeds go (2x)

The waves are slow, the waves are slow

Gently, gently all around

The waves are slow, the waves are slow

Gently, gently all around.

We are sailing on the water, on a boat across the sea

We'll be there in just one hour, going as fast as fast can be.

The waves are fast, the waves are fast

Swiftly, quickly all around

The waves are fast, the waves are fast

Swiftly, quickly all around.
